HOUSING LAW

The Law Centre plays a vital role locally in preventing homelessness by prioritising work for those who have nowhere to live, or those in danger of losing their homes through possession proceedings.

We can provide a speedy response to housing emergencies, particularly warrants for eviction where it is often necessary to make an immediate court application.

Are you threatened with homelessness? Do you have nowhere to live? Do you have to leave your home because it is no longer safe for you and your children to live there?

We can offer an initial appointment to give advice about any of the following:

  • Does my local council have a duty to find me somewhere to live?
  • What does the law say about living in overcrowded accommodation?
  • My local council has offered me a flat but I don't like it. Can I refuse to take it?
  • Where can I go if I have to leave my home and need somewhere else to stay urgently, i.e. to escape a violent partner?
  • What can I do if my landlord is harassing me?
  • My landlord is going to evict me next week. Can I do anything to stop this?
  • I have received a claim for possession from the county court for rent arrears. What should I do?
  • My landlord won't do any repairs in my home. Can I force them to?
  • My Mum has thrown me out. Does the council have to help me?

If you are affected by any the above issues the Law Centre might be able to help you. Please phone us on 020 8969 7473 for an appointment.
